Newcastle United fans have once again made their feelings known on Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino, who continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

Merino moved to Newcastle on a season-long loan last summer, before the midfielder penned a permanent contract with the Magpies in October.
The 22-year-old played in 24 of his club’s 38 Premier League matches during the 2017-18 campaign, and showed flashes of his undoubted ability.
Merino really struggled for football in the latter stages of the season, however, and it is understood that a number of Spanish clubs are interested in the midfielder this summer.
Merino, who is valued at £9m by transfermarkt.co.uk, started his professional career with Osasuna, and it is believed that a return to his homeland could be on the agenda.

It was actually the Spaniard’s birthday on Friday, and Newcastle’s Twitter account was on hand with a special message, which led to the club’s supporters becoming involved.
