During the past half-decade, Sunderland have become notorious for finding a solution to their relegation woes before the season is finished.

With the team yet again staring Championship football straight in the face, changes need to be made at the Stadium of Light before the Black Cats’ luck runs out.

Despite a recent revival since November, however, the club’s hierarchy has revealed Moyes will not be given significant funds in January to try and springboard another great escape.

It’s difficult to imagine with the finances English clubs currently possess that funds cannot be made available to avoid a seemingly inevitable – and long overdue – relegation in the North East.

Nonetheless, Moyes must now raise funds if he wants to make changes to his squad before the end of the month. But who should he consider chopping for the sake of new recruits?

Here are four players Moyes should move on to give himself a half-decent transfer budget.

Fabio Borini

According to Sky Sources, Fabio Borini is being targeted by former club AS Roma and Serie A giants AC Milan.

The Italian forward has failed to hit the heights at the Stadium of Light with his strike against Manchester City at Wembley the highlight of his four-year stay.

Moving from Sunderland to AC Milan would certainly be of interest to the Italian forward, and Sunderland could use the funds to buy a proven playmaker.

Jack Rodwell

Midfielder Jack Rodwell has started 34 Premier League games for Sunderland during his time on Wearside, and the 25-year-old midfielder is yet to be on the winning side.

Despite his long-standing ties with Rodwell from their Everton days, Moyes must find a potential suitor and an adequate upgrade in the engine room.

A Championship side maybe interested in making a move for the former Premier League winner.

Defender Lamine Kone was instrumental in Sunderland’s relegation-avoiding efforts last season.

However, the defender has been distracted this term and looks someway uninterested after the club refused to sell him over the summer.

Some big fees were talked about in regards to Kone during the summer, so cashing in and finding a cheaper replacement would allow Moyes to invest in other areas of the squad.
